Limited-edition visitor Toby Newt will be arriving at Hazel Village this Wednesday, May 6th at 1 PM ET! Toby's collection includes 10 items of big and little doll clothing and accessories, so he can match with his friend Zoe Rabbit. A purchase limit of 1 per household for this collection will be lifted 24 hours after launch. 

We are simply thrilled to introduce you to our friend Toby! This blog post includes all the photos and product details for his collection. But first, a little backstory: 

Way back in 2010 when our founder Jane created the first Hazel Village animal (Annicke Mouse), Annicke was actually just about Toby-sized. Next, Jane made another small gray mouse named Simon. After Simon Mouse, Jane decided the animals needed to be about 40% bigger. But it was great fun when Simon made a return visit in 2021, and this year we decided it was about time for another little guy! 

Toby Newt – $48

From his nesting spot by the stream, Toby Newt likes to watch Zoe Rabbit build her rock garden. Most rocks look very different under water or dry, he says. And there is more mud some places than others. He will keep us posted.

Toby is 9 inches tall and measures about 6.5 inches around his tummy. The other Hazel Village animals are 13 inches tall and measure about 8.5 inches around their tummies. Toby mostly wears his own smaller size clothing, but you can get creative styling him in our regular doll clothing for an oversized look.

Toby’s Wet Rock Smock – $14

Toby Newt recommends sticking rocks under water to see how their colors change. This linen smock is his favorite greeny-gray wet rock color. It has a roomy gathered shape, puffed sleeves, and a full size tummy pocket to carry his salamander dolly. Velcro back closure. Handmade by our artisan partners in Cambodia.

Mini Salamander – $18

Toby Newt calls his salamander dolly Shadows. Together they hide in the little shadowy places on the stream bank, and admire how the sunlight sparkles off the water. We’re excited to tell you about this special fabric! We created its flowery design, and a textile supplier in Germany brought it to life as a custom-knitted cotton jacquard. When the fabric arrived in our Brooklyn workshop, we sewed it into these nice suspender leggings for Toby Newt. They are soft and stretchy, and have an opening in the back so Toby’s tail can stick out. How cozy!

Rock Gardening Overalls for Dolls – $16

Zoe Rabbit’s biggest ongoing project is converting the stream bank behind her house into a rock garden. These overalls are her preferred rock gardening attire. They have a puffy shape and a cute rounded bib, and are made from custom-woven ivory cotton with a dark green windowpane plaid. Velcro back closure. Handmade by our artisan partners in Nepal.

We made these cozy leg warmers for Zoe Rabbit so she can match with Toby Newt’s suspender leggings. They are made from the same special custom-knitted cotton jacquard, and were also handmade with love here in our Brooklyn workshop. Zoe likes to wear hers a little scrunched up, but she says you can style them however you please.

Cabbage White Butterfly Sweater for Dolls – $22

Toby Newt likes Cabbage White butterflies because they are quite little, much like himself. This sweater is knit from a beautiful green cotton yarn and fastens at the back collar with a real shell button. On Toby, it has a boxy fit and long sleeves. On Zoe Rabbit (or any other regular sized Hazel Village friend), it has a standard fit and short sleeves. Handmade by our artisan partners in Nepal.
