Marigold Donkey wants you to know that Golden Alexander, a meadow flower, is the favorite food of swallowtail caterpillars. Sometimes when she’s observing butterflies, she snacks on golden Alexander blossoms, or picks them for her salad later.
Summertime Ramble Dress for Dolls – $14

Marigold Donkey’s favorite frock is perfect for summertime rambles down countryside roads. Its shoulder straps and narrow bodice are a gray and white oxford cotton stripe which creates a nice chevron effect. The full gathered skirt is made from airy white cotton voile with a woven check. The decorative hem is trimmed with warm beige cotton lace, and has three rows of pintucks. The textural details of this dress are really quite splendid. Handmade by our artisan partners in Colombia.
Butterfly Scrutiny Necklace for Dolls – $18

Marigold Donkey is a lepidopterist – that is, a studier of butterflies. When a butterfly lands near her, she uses her loupe necklace to magnify its minute details. Did you know that a butterfly’s wings are made up of hundreds of tiny scales? That is the sort of thing Marigold likes to talk about. Fully functional stainless steel & glass loupe, laser-etched with our original artwork of a marigold flower. The handmade neckband is a narrow yellow grosgrain ribbon with floral cotton underneath, and fastens with velcro. Recommended for ages 6+.
Meadow Grasses Blouse for Dolls – $14

This blouse is precisely the color of tall meadow grasses, golden-green in the sun. It is Marigold Donkey’s favorite color, although she says it does make her want a snack. Made from lightweight cotton in a boxy fit with lace trim details, a classic collar, a real shell button, and short sleeves which are gathered at the cuffs. Monarch Butterfly Wings for Dolls – $16

When Marigold Donkey wears these wings, she tries to think like a monarch butterfly. Mostly she thinks about how sweet the milkweed smells in the summer breezes. Woven cotton wings, screenprinted on both sides with our original artwork. Black elastic shoulder straps are secured to a brown corduroy back panel. Equipped with a nifty buttonhole which allows Marigold to attach her wings to her rucksack while she travels. Handmade by our artisan partners in Colombia.
Milkweed Pod Rucksack for Dolls – $18

Marigold Donkey’s rucksack looks just like a giant milkweed pod. She tells us that milkweed is the only food that monarch caterpillars can eat, and thus essential to the butterfly’s life cycle. This capacious green corduroy rucksack is trimmed in dark yellow cotton. Its yellow straps are hand-embroidered with dark brown decorative stitching. Twisted white cord ties in a bow to secure the flap down. Most special of all, this rucksack has a hidden button onto which Marigold can fasten her monarch butterfly wings. Flowery Bloomer Overalls for Dolls – $18

Marigold Donkey spends a lot of time sitting in wildflower meadows, studying the butterflies who flutter around her. These bloomer overalls help her blend in with the flowers, the better to observe unobtrusively. They have a roomy shape, perfect to wear alone in hot summer weather or layer over tops when it’s breezy. Made from lightweight yellow cotton with a floral print in oranges, pinks, and greens. Four rows of ruffles at the bottom add a nice textural quality. Ivory cotton twill tape suspender straps, back button closure. Handmade by our artisan partners in Cambodia.
Swallowtail Butterfly Knit Top for Dolls – $20

This sleeveless knit top evokes the beauty of a swallowtail butterfly. Marigold Donkey says it makes her feel pretty snazzy. Made from yellow cotton yarn with dark brown collar and ties, which end in two bright red pom-poms. The bow can be fastened in back or in front, depending on your preference. The dark brown scalloped hem is speckled with dainty yellow spots. Handmade by our artisan partners in Nepal.
Travelin’ Hat for Dolls – $18

Marigold Donkey’s travelin’ hat is made from wool felt which is brown at the crown, orangey-red in the middle, and bright yellow around the artfully nicked brim. It is designed this way to look like the coreopsis flower, also called tickseed, which many butterflies enjoy. There is also a narrow braided hatband with a little bow. This hat was handmade via traditional wet felting technique by our skilled artisan partners in Nepal.
